यह समाजवादी पार्टी बन गई। फलस्वरूप चंद्रशेखर प्रधानमंत्री बने।

के समर्थन से प्रधानमंत्री बने। सभी दलों का समर्थन के शक्ति को जुटा नहीं पाए व 12 दिन में पद से त्यागपत्र दे दिया।
एच.डी. देवेगौड़ा
(जन्म-1933) कार्यकाल जून 01, 1996 – 21 अप्रैल, 1997
अटल बिहारी की सरकार गिरने के फलस्वरूप। मिलाजुला दल संयुक्त मोर्चा (यू एफ ) बनाया गया जिसमे 13 दल थे।

कांग्रेस के समर्थन वापसी से एच.डी. देवेगौड़ा के स्थान पर इंद्र कुमार गुजराल नए प्रधानमंत्री बने।
सोनिया गाँधी का मई 1997 में शामिल व अध्यक्ष निर्वाचित हुई
के आर नारायणन राष्ट्रपति बने जो पहले दलित नेता हैं।
कांग्रेस के समर्थन वापसी पर सरकार गिर गई परन्तु लोकसभा चुनाव तक कार्यवाहक प्रधानमंत्री बने रहे।
